“The Journey Begins” – the first video in Liz Franklin’s Yoga in Chairs® video series.
Liz Franklin developed Yoga In Chairs to allow anyone who can sit in a chair to participate in a gentle, effective yoga practice.
Some of the exercises will help you deepen your breathing. When you breathe well you are feeding your body more oxygen. This in turn feeds your muscles and allows your brain to function at a higher level. Simply spending a few moments being aware of your breath is calming and will often bring you a sense of peace and comfort.
We will work on bringing more mobility to your body, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. We will endeavor to move each muscle and joint. Your joints need to be moved in a gentle consistent way to keep them flexible and strong. The muscle movements will help restore or maintain your strength, flexibility and range of motion.
As you continue to practice you may find that it is easier to look over your shoulder when you drive, easier to reach that item on the top shelf of the cup board, easier to bend over and pick up the spoon you dropped on the floor, easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. Most students find that their balance improves with regular practice. Nearly all students will see better posture and basically will feel better overall after practicing.
Please be patient with yourself. Some of the poses may feel awkward or slightly uncomfortable as you begin, but with practice they will become easier.
